Jesus told his disciples to “Let the children come to me.” It is Christ’s desire to see people grow in faith during their entire lives, including childhood. At St Aidan’s we don’t see kids as the future of the church but as part of the church now, and so we seek to see them grow as disciples of Jesus. During Sunday services we encourage children to be part of the service. Children learn to sing, to pray, and to worship God by observing those around them doing those things and by practicing them themselves.
During the 12:30 service, children stay in the pews for the opening worship and Scripture readings. After the Gospel reading, children aged 7 and under are dismissed to the nursery / Sunday School room for an age-appropriate Bible lesson, singing, and some quiet activities. They are escorted back into the sanctuary after the sermon, in time to receive communion with the rest of the congregation. Children aged 8 and up are invited remain in the Sanctuary to listen to the sermon. There are colouring sheets and crayons available in the vestibule for those who need a little help sitting still.
